980,364. Lathe tool-holders. Z.BRIERLEY, and A. S. WADSWORTH. Jan. 3, 1964 [Dec. 5, 1962], No. 45915/62. Heading B3B. A lathe-tool comprises a cutter 17 mounted adjustably on a tool-holder 10, a locator 30 engageable with a cylindrical element or the work, Fig. 3 (not shown), in a lathe's chuck, an abutment 36 on the locator 30 for locating a tip 28 of the cutter on the centre of the work &c., and means for locking the cutter. The cutter may have several tips 28 and be indexable about a central clamping bolt 18. One end of the locator 30 pivots on a boss 20 on the holder as the opposite, bifurcated end 31 is centred on the work. In this position, an abutment screw 33 in the locator is screwed into contact with an abutment 34, permitting the locator-setting to be repeated. A pin 36 slidable in the locator 30 is moved into the path of the adjacent tip 28, which is brought against the pin and clamped by the bolt 18 and a screwthreaded pin 42 engaging a recess in the cutter. Springs 26 act between the cutter and the holder 10, and the locator may be raised into an inoperative position, Fig. 4 (not shown). The holder may have a locating tongue on its base, Fig. 6 (not shown).
