Abstract

1,060,906. Lathe toolholders. CHARLES CHURCHILL & CO. Ltd. Dec. 20, 1965 [Feb. 10, 1965], No. 5787/65. Heading B3B. A toolholder for an indexable throwaway cutting bit (10) of rhomboidal shape includes a screwdown clamp (17) having a sloping heel (25) adapted to engage a sloping surface (26) formed in the toolholder body (16), a projection (24) on the underside of the clamp being provided to engage a corresponding centrally located depression (14) in the surface of the cutting bit (10). As the clamp is tightened down by a screw (18) the cutting bit is drawn into engagement with the support faces (21, 22) of the cutting bit recess (19). As an alternative the projection may be provided on the cutting bit and the complementary depression in the clamp. The face of the cutting bit is provided with two chip grooves (13).
