Abstract

1462755 Cutting tools; boring ALFRED HERBERT Ltd 6 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 9691/73 Headings B3B and B3C A cutting tool assembly, for example for use in thread cutting, comprises a holder 18 and a disposable cutting insert 20 the holder having a seat in the form of a recess at one end to receive the insert, the recess having a base, side and end 20, 19, 21 respectively and at least the base and or end being inclined at an acute angle to the side whereby the insert which has corresponding co-operating faces is maintained in secure location in the recess irrespective of the forces imposed on the tap during the cutting process. The insert is provided with a transverse groove 16 for engagement by a screwed clamp 22 which is flush with the top surface of the holder. The clamp is of the bridge type the tightening of which by screw member 24 urges the insert into positive abutment with all three surfaces of the recess. (For Figures see next column.)
