Abstract

1493354 Cutting tools WICKMAN MACHINE TOOL SALES Ltd 11 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973] 54208/73 Heading B3B A lathe cutting tool, e.g. a parting-off tool, comprises a shank 10 having a transverse slot 11 which is widened adjacent a side face of the shank to receive a cutting insert 17, the opposite faces of the widened portion of the slot 11 having keying means to engage corresponding portions of the opposite edges of the insert 17, and clamping means, e.g. a screw 23, for deforming the shank to cause the insert to be gripped in the slot. The keying means comprises V-shaped grooves 13, 14 in the slot which engage V-shaped edges 18, 19 of the insert. The front face of the shank 10 has an inclined face 20 except for a narrow insert support extension 21 and a relieved inclined surface 22. The shank 10 may be made in two pieces brazed together, one piece comprising the widened insert receiving portion of the slot 11. The insert 17 is reversible and includes side and front clearance angles (Figs. 4-6, not shown) and may engage a packing piece in the slot 11.
