Abstract

935,081. Machine tool details. EDWARD DAWSON (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Sept. 24, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 30601/58. Class 83 (3). In a milling &c. machine, the tool arbor is secured in a cylindrical bore in a bush by a draw-bar, the bush being externally tapered and secured in the machine spindle by another drawbar. In one form, bush 2, Figs. 1, 2, is secured in spindle 1 by a hollow draw-bar 3, axially movable by a nut 3c. The tool is placed on a arbor 4 having a key 4b which fits in a keyway on the tool, and a keyway 2d in the arbor, the arbor then being engaged by the screwed end 5a of a second draw-bar 5 operated by a nut 5b. The arbor may have a chuck secured thereto, or the end 4a may be replaced by a collet which is actuated by an internallybevelled member, secured to end 2a of bush 2. In a modification, the arbor has a boring tool secured thereto, or, alternatively, the arbor may have a tapered bore for morse or like taper tools. Key 4b may be replaced by keys 6<SP>5</SP>b, Fig. 10, when using large shell-type cutters 6<SP>5</SP>c, or by members 6<SP>6</SP>b having two sets of dogs 6<SP>6</SP>d, 6<SP>6</SP>c, Fig. 11. The axial movement of arbor 14, Figs. 16, 17, may be controlled from the tool carrying end by having an adjustable screwed collar 16 with a peg 16a, which engages a bayonet slot 18b in an externally-screwed nut 18 whose axial position is adjustable in bush 2.
