Abstract

729,295. Sockets. SCHIESS AKT.-GES. Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 24, 1952], No. 35686/53. Class 83 (3). Means for securing a tool 1, particularly a boring-bar, in a toolholder 4 comprises a conical part 2 and a screw-threaded spindle 12 driven by bevel gears 7, 8, the screw threads 16 on the end of the spindle which engage screw threads 17 in the tool being of different pitch from those (18) on the other end of the spindle-engaging screw threads 19 in the toolholder. The difference in pitch secures the tapered shank 2 in the socket 3 of the toolholder upon rotation of the bevel gears 7, 8 by a key engaging a recess 11 in the gear 8, the drive being transmitted to the spindle 12 as by splines 13 disposed on the spindle between stop collars 20, 21. A bush 6 supports the gear 8 and may be secured by a screw 5. A screw-threaded extension 23 may be provided on the spindle to secure smaller tools in an adapter in the socket 3, the extension passing through an opening in the end of the adapter to secure the tool in the reduced socket of the adapter.
