Abstract

567,108. Turning. B.G. (LONDON), Ltd., [trading as DULCI CO.], and HARRIS, C. S. April 16, 1943, No. 6134. [Class 83 (iii)] In a combined tool and work rest the cutter 1 is secured to a slide 6 adjustable by a nut 14 in a guide slot 15 in a head 3 which has a hollow shank 30 for attachment to a lathe slide. The cutter rests on an L-shaped pad 10 engaging the inclined base of a slot in the slide 6 and is clamped therein by two screws 11. An - L shaped setting block 7 on the head has a face 7a parallel to the guide 15 for the slide 6 which serves to set the cutting edge 1a in line with the centre of the work 2, the cutter being tangential to the work but inclined to a transverse plane, as shown in Fig. 3. The adjusting nut 14 is secured against axial movement by a U-shaped plate 21 engaging a flange 20 thereon and has a graduated dial for re-setting the cutter to a previous position, clamping of the slide 6 being effected by screws 12. Two roller steadies 4, 5 support the turned work opposite the cutter and are mounted on slides 8, 9 adjustable radially by hand and clamped in slots 22 in the head by screws 23.
