Abstract
742,727. Air-blast circuit-breakers; sparking preventing in switches. HUSA, V., KRIZ, J., CERNY, L., and JANOS, L. March 2, 1953 [March 4, 1952], No: 5753/53. Class 38(5) The main contacts 13, 16 of an alternating-current circuit-breaker 4 are arranged to open shortly before zero current by means of an explosion. The contacts are in parallel with contacts 3, Fig. 1, which are opened by an air blast through a valve 2, the blast also being applied to a delaying device which controls a contact 6 in the circuit of an impulse generator 7. The impulses are applied to a H.F. generator 9 which supplies a spark plug 11, Figs. 1 and 3, arranged to ignite an explosive mixture in a cavity 14 of the fixed contact 13. The explosion separates the contacts against the action of a spring 18 and their separation is accelerated by an air blast through inlet 26 and venting at 27. The final movement of the contact 16 is damped by a piston 22 in a liquid in a cylinder 24, the reclosing movement also being delayed so that a series disconnect switch 12, Fig. 1, may open first.
