Class 47 [Also in Group XXIX] In an apparatus for making foam, water is supplied through a pipe 1 to a circular port 10 and air is supplied through a pipe 2 to an annular port 11, both ports normally being closed by a lift valve 9 operable by a diaphragm 12. When a cock 14 is opened water is supplied to the space 7 above the diaphragm 12 to open the valve 9 and through a pipe 16 to an injector 17 (not shown) to draw in a foam stabilizing agent which passes through openings 20 in an annular chamber 19 to mix with the air and,water below the valve 9: In order to keep the delivery of water constant despite pressure variations, a spring-raised sleeve 21, is provided within the port 10 and is raised or lowered as the pressure varies openings 25 being provided to transmit the outlet pressure of the water to the underside of a piston head 22 carried by the sleeve.
