Abstract
664,240. Mixing appliances. RUSH, H. A. Dec. 7, 1949 [Nov. 12, 1949], No. 31451/49. Class 86 [Also in Group XXIX] In a liquid treating apparatus wherein a treating liquid is delivered in a small quantity for mixing with the liquid to be treated, and proportional to the rate of discharge thereof, a flexible wall is displaced in response to the rate of flow of the liquid to be treated, the movement of the wall being transmitted to a second flexible wall spaced therefrom which in turn operates a valve to admit treating liquid into a chamber defined by the second wall, discharge means being provided from said chamber through which treating liquid flows for mixing with the liquid to be treated. As described an outlet spout 4, Fig. 2, is swingable about a bush 7 screwed to an adaptor 6 through which water under pressure is supplied from a manifold, (not shown), the water passing to the outlet passage 4a of the spout by way of a cavity 10 and passage way 15 in the hub 5 of the spout. Within predetermined limits of swinging movement of the spout 4 the cavity 10 communicates with an expansible chamber 28 through a passage 46, the passage 46 being blocked by a stationary member 47 as shown in Fig. 4 when the spout is swung to a position outside said predetermined limits. The chamber 28 is vented by a restriction 35 leading into the spout outlet passage 4a. The pressure of the water entering the chamber 28 causes movement of a flexible wall 33 which in turn displaces a flexible wall 32 spaced therefrom and forming a chamber 30, a valve closure member 41 carried by the flexible wall 32 being thus caused to open, allowing liquid treating agent to flow from a container 22 into the chamber 30 and thence into an outlet passage 54 leading to a discharge opening 19 in the spout. The stem 37 which carries the valve closure 41 has an axially extending groove 40a progressively increasing in depth from the ring 41 so that the flow through the valve is proportional to the amount of its displacement. Should the diaphragm 32 fail, the chemical passes into the space between the two diaphragms 32 and 33 and out of vents 34, the diaphragm 33 preventing leakage of chemical into the water supply system. Specification 604,479 is referred to.
