Abstract
1302906 Moulding foamed materials UNIROYAL Inc 17 March 1970 [18 March 1969 (4)] 12684/70 Heading B5A An apparatus for moulding foamed materials comprises a mould 120 having a port 130 connected by a pipe 122 to a tank 100 containing liquid foamed material 106. Pipes 140, 102 supply pressurized gas and liquid foamed material to the tank, the gas supply including a valve 142 responsive to gas pressure in the tank, to control gas flow to the tank 100 to maintain a constant pressure. A paddle wheel 110 is provided in the tank 100 to sense the presence of foamed material above a level 108, and actuate a switch 114 which in turn controls a valve 104 to regulate the flow of foamed material to the tank through pipe 102. A second pressurized air inlet 150 controlled by a solenoid operated valve 152 responsive to a valve 124 in the pipe 122 allows air at a higher flow rate than the first supply, to enter the tank as the material flows out into the mould. The mould comprises a vessel 134 and top plate 132 with corresponding angled edges (see Fig. 2, not shown), an air outlet 133 and a filler port 130. The port 130 has a conical surface (170) in which a removable spherical nozzle 128 of pipe 122 fits. A manually operated hinged cover 160 is provided with a magnetic latch (172, 174), to close the mould when nozzle 128 is removed. A back pressure valve 126 is also located in the pipe 122 to terminate the flow of material to the mould when the mould is full.
