Abstract

573,224. Mixing devices. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and MARTLAND, L. Oct. 7, 1943, No. 16448. [Class 7 (ii)] Gases such as air and fuel-gas are mixed in a chamber to which the gases are led by nozzles constructed to deliver the gases at equal velocities and proportioned to give the desired ratio of the gases, equal static pressures being maintained at the nozzles despite variations in the rate or pressure of the supply of either or both of them. A mixing chamber (a) terminates at a conical air nozzle b surrounding a conical gas nozzle c and engine suction operative at the nozzles is transmitted through the gas nozzle c to a chamber d<2> communicating through apertures g in the wall of the chamber and h<1> in the wall of a transfer valve h with an upper chamber k separated from a lower chamber l exposed to atmospheric pressure by a diaphragm i carrying the transfer valve. Gas is drawn down a pipe d into an upper chamber d<1> separated from the lower chamber d<2> by a partition e, but provided with apertures f adapted to be uncovered by the transfer valve h when the diaphragm is drawn upwards to establish communication between the chambers d<1>, d<2> and control the passage of the gas. In a modification, the diaphragm chamber is mounted on the wall of the air passage which surrounds the gas passage, the latter being provided with a butterfly valve actuated by the diaphragm.
