  • Control Of Throttle Valves Provided In The Intake System Or In The Exhaust System (AREA)

Abstract

PURPOSE: To supply mixture to engine from a subsidiary intake passage and to thereby improve combustibility of mixture during low-speed operation of a multi-cylinder engine, by providing a main throttle valve and a subsidiary throttle valve in the intake passage and connecting a portion of the intake passage located between these two throttle valves and suction ports through a subsidiary intake passage.
CONSTITUTION: A subsidiary throttle valve 14 is provided in intake mainfold 10 at a portion thereof located downstreams of main throttle valve 12. A portion of the intake passage located between these two throttle valves 12, 14 and suction ports 5 are communicated with each other through subsidiary intake passage 36, distribution passage 34 and branch passages 35. The subsidiary throttle valve 14 is actuated by a throttle valve actuating means 17 including a vacuum chamber 20 into which suction vacuum is supplied. Further, a vacuum controlling valve 23 is provided for controlling vacuum supplied to vacuum chamber 20. Partial vacuum on the upstream side and on the downstream side of the subsidiary throttle valve 14 is transmitted respectively to vacuum chambers 25 and 26 of the control valve 23, so that valve 23 is actuated by the differential pressure. Diaphragm 24 of the valve 14 is connected with a valve 30 adapted for establishing or interrupting communication to atmospheric port 31, so as to control vacuum transmitted to vacuum chamber 20. With such an arrangement, when valve 14 is closed, mixture is supplied through subsidiary intake passage 36.
