Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate fluctuation of air-fuel ratio in an internal combustion engine, by controlling supply of air to engine by average negative pressure free of pulsation of negative pressure in an apparatus for supplying air or the like to portions near the suction ports while controlling air-fuel ratio at a proper value.
CONSTITUTION: A common throttle valve 32 is provided in main intake passage 12 of a multi-cylinder engine 2. Air cleaner 22 located upstreams of the throttle valve 32 and suction ports 14 are communicated with each other by respective branch passage 35 and auxiliary passage 34 for supplying auxiliary air to respective combustion chambers 10. In the auxiliary passage 34, there is provided a synchronous control valve means 40 for controlling the amount of air supplied to the engine. Inside of the valve means 40 is divided into the first chamber 46 and the second chamber 48 by means of diaphragm 52, which is provided with a valve 56 for establishing or interrupting communication between these two chambers 46 and 48. In the above arrangement, suction vacuum is transmitted to the first chamber 46 via conduit 44, whereas the second chamber 48 is communicated to an air chamber 58 having a large capacity so as to absorb pulsation of negative pressure in the first chamber 46.
