Abstract
PURPOSE: To aim at making improvements in engine output by installing a suction displacement variable mechanism, forming a displacement expansion part, in an intake system, and at a low engine speed area, getting rid of this displacement expansion part and producing resonance supercharging there, while making the extent of inertial supercharging so as to be increased in a way of forming the displacement expansion part at a high engine speed area.
CONSTITUTION: A suction passage 7, feeding each of cylinders 2aW2d of an in-line 4-cylindered engine is constituted of a resonance suction passage 8, a collecting suction passage 9 being formed by a collecting pipe part 12 of a suction manifold 11 and independent suction passages 10aW10d formed in respective branch pipe parts 13aW13d of the suction manifold 11. And, a displacement expansion chamber 18, provided with an on-off valve 19, is connected to the suction passage 7 in the collecting pipe part 12. And at a low engine speed area, the on-off valve 19 is closed so as to produce resonance supercharging of suction air, while at a high engine speed area, the valve 19 is controlled by a control unit 35 to be opened so as to product inertial supercharging of the suction air.
