Abstract

698,588. Propelling ships by water jets. ENGINEERING CORPORATION, Ltd. Oct. 16, 1951. [Oct, 17, 1950] No. 24104/51. Class 114. Water ejection apparatus for propelling ships comprises a water ejection pipe 2 into which combustion gas is admitted intermittently from a combustion chamber 4. 5 through a valve 6 which opens the gas outlet ports 8 and simultaneously closes the water inlet 14. The combustion chamber is supplied with compressed air through a pipe 9 and has a fuel injection nozzle 11 and an ignition device 13. A number of water ejection pipes may be mounted on a ship's hull and their combustion chambers may be supplied with compressed air from a common source.
