Abstract
946,739. Hydraulic jet propulsion apparatus. KEMENCZKY ESTABLISHMENT. Sept. 12, 1960, No. 31289/60. Heading B7V. [Also in Division F1] Gases from the combustion chamber 1 enter the thrust tube 3 and force water, which has entered through the inlet 17, out through the discharge 29 to propel a boat. The combustion chamber is divided into primary and secondary chambers 7 and 8 by a check valve 9 and is connected with the thrust tube 3 through a flap valve 6. Water is admitted through the inlet opening 17 and passes through a rotary check valve 19, which is described and claimed in Specification 946,740. Air is admitted through the starting pump 30 to the carburetter 11 and the mixture passes through the chamber 7 via a valve 10. A spark-plug 14, which is controlled by an ignition apparatus (see Division F1), ignites the mixture and the gases thereby formed force the water in the tube 3 in the direction of the arrow 15 up to the line 50, whereupon they contract and this feature, together with the inertia of the ejected water, causes a vacuum to be produced in the chambers 7 and 8 so that a fresh supply of fuel mixture is sucked through the valve 10. At the same time water is sucked in through the check valve 19 to fill the tube 3 and the cycle is repeated as the next ignition occurs in the combustion chamber. The portion 27 of the tube 3 is made of an elastic material so that water entering the tube after the check-valve 19 has closed, due to the pressure of the combustion gases, will cause the portion 27 to bellow outwardly to store energy which is used to give the water an additional acceleration into the adjacent part of the tube 3 when the valve 19 is opened. The chamber 1 may be located within the thrust tube 3.
