Abstract
PURPOSE:To avoid undesired air resistance by a method wherein an air intake port of a diffuser is closed during the combustion of a solid propellant for a booster and is opened at the time of completion of the combustion, in a ram rocket charged with a solid propellant rich in fuel. CONSTITUTION:When the propellant 7 is ignited by an ignitor, the combustion gas is jetted through a nozzle 5 and the rocket flies with the thrust of the jetted gas. At the time of completion of the combustion, a sufficiently high speed for obtaining a ram pressure is reached, a booster nozzle 21 is removed to enlarge the opening area so as to be suitable for the combustion of a ram jet and, simultaneously, a clamp 24 is rotated by a driving gear 25. As a result, the diffuser 23 is wide opened by the separating force between the first link 26 and the second link 27, a residual internal pressure of a main combustion chamber 4 and the resistance of the outside air, so that air is sucked into the main combustion chamber 4 and is mixed with a combustible gas fed from a fuel supply part 3, resulting in combustion. Accordingly, the undesired air resistance due to the diffuser 23 can be avoided.
