Abstract
1362744 Mixing gases in proportions SOC MINERVE SA 19 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 28646/72 Heading B1C Apparatus for supplying a gas/oxygen mixture to a respirator mask comprises a chamber 18 supplied with pulsating pressurised oxygen from a source 21 through passage 19; the valve chamber 31 is also connected to the source 21 through passage 34 so that the valve 32, 33 operates in synchronism with the pulsations. As the pressure in chamber 18 rises the valve 32, 33 closes and the weighted bellows 22 is compressed closing valve 25 and expelling the gas in the bellows through passages 26, 27 to the face mask. As the oxygen pressure falls, the bellows expands and valve 32, 33 opens; part of the oxygen in chamber 18 is drawn into the bellows through passages 30, 16, apertures 6a, 6b, chamber 3 and valve 25, and the rest is vented through passage 29. Atmospheric air is also drawn in through passages 28, 17 and respective apertures 6a, 6b and mixes with the oxygen in chamber 3 and the bellows. As shown in Fig. 2 the apertures 6a, 6b are arranged in two concentric arcuate rows and are opened to the oxygen and air supply passages 16, 17 by arcuate recesses 12, 13 in the bottom of a drum 7 rotatable by means of a knob 11 with respect to the disc 4 in which the apertures 6a, 6b are formed, thus altering the number of apertures through which the gases can flow. The total number of apertures in use is always the same so that the total output of gas mxiture is constant irrespecive of the air/oxygen proportions.
