Abstract

741,975. Centrifugal fans. MATTHFWS & YATES, Ltd. July 21, 1954 [Nov 18, 1953], No. 31953/53. Class 110(1) The casing of a centrifugal fan has square side plates 1, 2, between which the scroll 3 is fixed, as by welding, and is enclosed in a framework of angle bars 5, 6, whereby it can be secured to a convenient support with the discharge outlet 4 facing in any of four different directions. The flanges of the angle bars 5, 6 are drilled to receive mounting bolts. The side plates 1, 2 have identical circular holes, one hole being covered by a cover plate 7 having an inlet opening and the other hole being covered by a cover plate 8 having a smaller opening for the shaft 9 of the impeller 10 to pass through. The cover plates 7 and 8 may be transposed and the bearing podestal 12 placed on the opposite side of the fan casing. The discharge may be delected through an angle of less than 90 degrees by means of a prolongation of the scroll and sector-shaped attachments to the side plates adjacent the outlet. In a modification, the shaft 9 runs in a single bearing carried by a cover plate corresponding to cover plate 8.
