Abstract
740,184. Training and elevating mechanisms for guns. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS Jan. 11, 1954 [Jan 24, 1953], No. 748/54. Class 92. Relates to a gun mounted on a rotatable platform in which a motor operating through transmission means normally effects the training and elevating but which is also provided with hand operated devices to effect the training and elevating when the motor fails to operate. The gun 1 is journalled by pivots 4 in a cradle carrier 5, 6 rigidly mounted on the platform 7 which is provided with peripheral gear teeth 8 and the gun carries an elevating gear segment 43. Training is effected by the motor 22 operating through transmission means 18, 14, 13, 11, 10, 9, the pinion 9 engaging the gear teeth 8. A coupling unit 16 is incorporated in this transmission means. Elevation is effected also by the motor 22 operating through transmission means 25, 28, 29, 31, 34, 38, 39, 40, 42, the pinion 42 engaging the gear segment 43. A part 25, 28, 29 of this transmission means is located below the platform 7 and is connected to the upper part by the cylinder 31 which extends through an aperture 32 in the platform 7. Coupling units 27, 36 are incorporated in the lower part and upper part respectively of this transmission means. In addition the lower part is connected to the training transmission means by pinions 44, 45, 49, 50 and a shaft which incorporates a coupling unit 47. The hand operated devices 56, 62 are connected to the upper part of the training transmission means on either side of the coupling unit 36 and themselves incorporate coupling units 54, 60. For normal operation the coupling units 16, 27. 36 are in engagement and the coupling units 47, 54, 60 disengaged. If the motor is put out of action and manual operation becomes necessary. the coupling units 16, 27, 36 are disengaged and the coupling units 47, 54, 60 engaged. Operation of the hand wheel 62 will then impart movement to the gear segment 43 but not to the shaft 35. whilst operation of the hand wheel 56 will rotate the cylinder 31 and thence through the bevel gears 44, 45, coupling unit 47, bevel gears 49, 50 and pinions 9-14, rotate the platform 7. Movement of the shaft 28 will not be transmitted to the shafts 17 or 26 as the coupling units 16 27 are disengaged.
