[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] A machine tool for cutting worm wheels, skew gear wheels and conically-shaped splines has a work-table driven by a variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprising main and auxiliary driving spur gears 7, 12 meshing respectively with interengaging planets 8, 9 supported without overhang in portions 11a, 11b of a carrier 11 connected through a shaft 2 to a pinion 1 powering the work-table through a train of gears (not shown) mounted on the division plate 3. The gear 12, which is sleeved about the shaft 2, is driven through a worm 5 from the tool feed control. The worm 5 may be locked when a modified drive is not required.
