Abstract

In a method of cleaning equipment, especially ferrous metal fibre-processing plant, to remove organic polymers, the equipment is exposed to an atmosphere of from 15-85 per cent by weight of steam and 3.5-20 per cent by weight of oxygen, the remainder being inert gas such as nitrogen, at a temperature of 300-600 DEG C. The equipment may be treated in an oven or furnace through which a steam-air mixture, preferably at 430-560 DEG C. is passed at a rate of 5-200, preferably 10-100, lbs. of atmosphere per hour per pound of organic waste to be removed.
