510,861. Refining copper. HERAEUS VACUUMSCHMELZE AKT.-GES. March 14. 1939, No. 8218. Convention date, April 6, 1938. [Class 82 (i)] Copper free from gaseous impurities and oxygen derived from an oxidizing treatment for removing the oxidizable impurities, is produced by treating the molten copper under reduced pressure on a carbon hearth or in the presence of carbon. The copper so treated is cast in vacuo or under a protective atmosphere. During the treatment under reduced pressure residual small amounts of bismuth, lead, zinc &c. are reduced and distil off.
