Abstract

738,451. Alternative working systems. AKTIESELSKABET BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI. Sept. 7, 1953, No. 24663/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 7(2). Running-in of individual replacement cylinder liners in a multi-cylinder diesel engine having cylinder fuel valves cooled by gas, diesel or other light oil and normally feeding boiler or other heavy oil is effected by switching over the fuel valve or valves of only the newly lined cylinder or cylinders to feed the light oil. As applied to an in-line engine, mechanically engine-driven pumps deliver through filters into light-oil and heavy-oil supply manifolds both of which communicate, through alternatively-operable cutoff valves, with a fuel pump for each cylinder, which pump delivers to two fuel valves which are cooled in series from the light-oil manifold. Light-oil and heavy-oil return manifolds are provided, the former receiving the cooling oil and the latter the overspill from the fuel pumps at all times unless alternatively-operable cut-off valves are provided to direct the overspill to the appropriate return manifold.
