1281692 Regulating fuel injection engines, carburetters DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 24 July 1969 [30 July 1968] 36218/68 Heading F1B A fuel injection apparatus comprises a fuelpump (2), Fig. 1 (not shown), a piston 6, Fig. 2, mounted for reciprocation between stops 9, 11 to define two variable volume working spaces, an engine-driven face valve 18 which has ports which successively connect one working space to the fuel-pump delivery and connect the other working space to the engine fuel supply connection and vice versa the valve 18 also having ports which distribute the engine fuel supply to the fuel injectors in sequence and a control mechanism for the adjustment of the stops in accordance with the output of a device which senses absolute inlet manifold pressure. A shaft 18 drives the gearpump 2 and face valve 18 at half engine speed the fuel being delivered to chamber 17. Stop 9 is positioned by a manually operated cam 45. Stop 11 is positioned by cam 13 which is moved by bellows 14 subject to inlet manifold pressure and by bellows 15 subject engine exhaust back pressure. Bellows 14 may be responsive to engine intake temperature. Stop 9 may be fixed and the cam 45 or the equivalent included in part 43. The apparatus may control the fuel supply to a sparkignition or compression-ignition engine. The face valve member may be of a material having lubricating properties, e.g. graphite.
