Abstract
737,732. Pipe couplings. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1951 [Sept. 29, 1950], No. 21991/51. Class 99 (1). A coupling between pipes 1, 2, which can be disconnected by a pull on the pipe 2, comprises a nut 6 rotatably mounted on the coupling member 2a and adapted to screw on to a coupling member 3 housed in a sleeve 13 mounted on a support 5, the nut comprising a plurality of segments pivotally supported on a collar 8. The nut segments 7, Fig. 6, have lugs 11 which interengage with lugs 12 on the collar 8. They are retained in the collar and in cylindrical formation by a spring ring 9 engaging grooves in the lugs 11 and shoulders on the lugs 12. The segments fit closely within the sleeve 13. When the nut and coupling member 3 are withdrawn from the sleeve against the action of a spring 14, the segments are spread apart, as shown in Fig. 6, by the cam action of the screw-threads, and the member 2a is released without rotation of the nut. The screw-thread of the nut, or of the member 3, or of both, may be rounded to facilitate this action. A hinged dust cover 16 may be provided.
