A tap of which the closure member 10 is carried by a tripod 9 engaged in a groove 5f in a screw-threaded member 5 and is moved towards or away from a seat 2c by rotation of the member 5 within an internally-threaded body part 4 has passages Y formed between a hexagonal or splined part 5d of the member 5 and a mating hole in an operating sleeve 7, whereby water which leaks along the threads can escape to an annular opening X and thence join the main stream issuing at 5e. A nozzle cap 8 retains the operating sleeve in engagement with the part 5d and with a split resilient ferrule 6 which is thereby caused to expand radially at its upper end into a groove 4a in the body part 4 and limit the degree of movement permitted the member 5. A closure member 3, arranged to seat at 2b when the main closure member 10 is removed, has a fluted portion 3b which merges into a disc at its lower end so as to assist flow past the main closure member. In a modification, the closure member 10 is carried by a part integral with the member 5.
