Abstract
847,098. Valves. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Jan. 17, 1957 [Jan. 20, 1956], No. 1848/57. Class 135. A valve member of resilient material comprises a main part 15 with a seating face 2 and a sleeve 5 extending at right angles to the seating face 2 and terminating in a toric annulus 4, the sleeve having at least one orifice 10 to allow the passage of fluid. The annulus is held in fluid-tight manner between the valve casing 14 and its base 11. The hole or holes 10 register with a corresponding hole or holes 9 in a tube 8. The valve face 2 has concentric corrugations 3 to co-operate with a seat 16 around an outlet nozzle 17. The base 11 has a serrated shank 12 for connection to a flexible pipe 13 and the tube 8 extends through the shank into the pipe. On grasping the pipe and pressing on the valve casing with the thumb, the tube 8 cants about the lower edge 18 of the shank 12 and the valve member is rocked so as to be lifted at least partly from its seat. Channels 20 permit air to pass between the valve member and the casing 14. The valve member is moulded on the tube 8 which has two inwardly curved prongs 19 and two outwardly curved prongs 21, Fig. 3. The valve member may be arranged to be moved from its seat by torsion, the torsion shortening the valve member. The Specification also describes a known spring-loaded rigid valve member connected by a ball and socket joint to a rod projecting into the flexible pipe.
