Abstract

525,541. Valves. CAWDERY, W. H. March 16, 1939, No. 4802/38. [Class 135] A valve device comprising a pair of heads adapted to seat on oppositely directed annular seats has each head provided with a stem portion which is adapted to pass through a seat and be attached by screwing to the other stem portion. As shown in Fig. 1 applied to the control of hot and cold water, the valve comprises a cylindrical casing 1 with an axial inlet for cold water and a lateral outlet 3 also for the cold water. The casing also has lateral hot water inlet and outlets 4, 5 respectively. The slidable valve 6 has heads or pistons 7, 8 at its opposite ends which co-operate with seats 14, 15. The head 7 seats by gravity, or by the aid of a spring when the casing is mounted horizontally, and is unseated by the pressure of cold water on the lower head 8. Where the pressures of the two fluids are substantially the same, the upper head 7 is provided with a balancing piston 16, Fig. 3, which is above the inlet 4. The outlet 3 may be dispensed with, the inlet 2 being connected by a T union to an intermediate point in the cold water pipe.
