Abstract

242,261. Schultheis, A. Oct. 30, 1924, [Convention date]. Actuating-mechanism. - A valve device for controlling the flow of fluids comprises a hollow elastic member or bulb a, Figs. 3 and 5, surrounded by a strong elastic annular member or ring b which keeps the valve f closed upon its seating g by its inherent elasticity, as shown in Fig. 3. On compression and distortion laterally the rib b opens the valve, as shown in Fig. 5. The hollow member a may be held in the distorted position by a pivoted strap h which is pressed down upon a nib i<1> as shown. The bulb may, however, be formed separate from the rib b and be disposed within the rib to form the joint between the inlet nipple c and the outlet nozzle g. Fig, 6 shows an arrangement applied to a pipe l or vessel in which the valve is opened by a direct axial push along the spindle, c, and Fig. 8 an arrangement directly formed upon a urinal vessel r with catheter s. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the hollow elastic member a may be cylindrical instead of spherical, a transverse compression causing the member a to contract axially and thereby open the valve. This subject-matter is not in the Specification as accepted.
