Abstract
629,720. Manually-actuated valves; valve seats. TWENTIETH CENTURY VALVE CORPORATION, Inc. Sept. 9, 1947, No. 24774. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1946. [Class 135] A valve or faucet comprises a body 1 with a U-section elastic seat ring 6 between the inlet 2 and the outlet 19, and a closure member 9 movable into or out of the opening 10 in the ring. When the member 9 projects into the ring, inlet pressure forces the inner flange of the ring into sealing contact with the closure member. The ring is held in position by a ported sleeve 17 which engages a U-sectioned elastic ring 22 to prevent leakage. In a modification, the ring 22 is omitted and the sleeve is integral with the cap 15. In a further modification, the cap 15 has an extended tubular portion enclosing the parts 6, 9, 17, 22. In another arrangement, the closure member is pushed against the inlet pressure and enters the seat ring from the inlet side.
