Abstract
909,737. Valves. EWARTS Ltd. April 15, 1961, No. 13648/61. Class 135. [Also in Group XVII] A rotary conical plug valve is provided with a sealing ring b<SP>2</SP> of rubber or like material located in an annular recess 6<SP>1</SP> in the plug so as to seat in the larger diameter end of the conical seat a<SP>1</SP>, the plug with its ring being retained by a compression spring f which bears, e.g. through a washer e, on the head of the plug, the other end of the spring bearing on a washer d through which a manual operating stem b<SP>3</SP> passes, this washer d being retained by a circlip d<SP>1</SP> engaging a shoulder in a cylindrical part a<SP>3</SP> of the valve body a. In the embodiment a tank, e.g. of a motor bicycle or the like, is emptied first to one level and then to a lower level through an innertube-and-outer-gauze fitting g, g<SP>1</SP> connected to separate inlets a<SP>6</SP>, a<SP>7</SP> respectively of the valve which has a first setting in which flow to the outlet a<SP>8</SP> is shut off, a second setting in which emptying of the tank down to the one level through tube g only is permitted, and a third setting in which emptying below this level through the gauze g<SP>1</SP> and passage a<SP>7</SP> is permitted.
