Abstract

883,459. Valves. PEGLERS Ltd. March 14, 1958 [March 18, 1957], No. 8869/57. Class 135. A tap comprises a tubular body 10 with an inlet 11 and a threaded part 12 engaged by a tapered sleeve 13 with a capstan handle 28, the sleeve having a discharge nozzle part 14 and incorporating main and auxiliary valve seats 17, 18, respectively. Co-operating with seat 17 is a tapered closure 19 supported by the tapered wall of the nozzle part 14 and embodying an extension 21 that abuts a loose ball closure 22; unintentional removal of the sleeve 13 is prevented by a set-screw 27. The tap is closed by threading the sleeve 13 up the body 10, the main closure 19 being carried on to its seat in the nozzle 14; upon threading the sleeve down the body the closure 19 is freed and then forced by the water from its seat. The lower part of closure 19 is axially fluted to prevent turbulence. The closure 19 may be renewed by slackening the set-screw 27 and removing the sleeve and closure 19 from the body whereupon the loose ball 22 engages seat 18 and prevents flow of water through the valve. The closure 19 is made of polyamide or polyethylene resin.
