Abstract

431,543. Waste valves for lavatory basins &c. CORNELL, E. S., 17, Campbell Lane, Larchmont, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 25, 1934, No. 27489. [Class 135] A waste valve particularly for use with lavatory basins, tubs, &c., comprises a rotatable valve member 17 of generally spherical shape with a passageway therethrough so that in one position of the valve 17 the passageway registers with an annular valve seat 18 to allow fluid to flow therethrough and in another position an imperforate part 17 of the member 17 bears against the seating 18 to stop the flow of fluid, the member 17 being displaceable towards and away from the seat 18 and resiliently urged towards the seat. The seat 18 is formed on a part 10 shaped to the opening in the basin 13 and screwed into the valve-housing proper 10 which is secured to the basin 13 by a nut 14. Two elongated holes 20 in either the part 10 or the part 10 or a ring clamped between them receive the symmetrically-disposed trunnions 19 of the valve member 17. A ring 21 of spring steel is clamped between the parts 10, 10 and has curved depending tongues 21 which engage the surface of the member 17 to press it towards the seat 18 and also serve to hold it frictionally in any position to which it has been rotated. The imperforate part 17 of the member 17 is substantially flat with a spherical annular periphery 17b to engage the valve seat 18 The valve member 17 is operated by a fingerknob adjustably attached to a flexible connector 26 fixed to a slidable rod 27 carrying an arm 29 slotted at its upper end 30 to engage a pin 31 on the valve member 17. Specification 12056/15, [Class 135], is referred to.
