Abstract

895,518. Valves. CRAWFORD, I. L. Feb. 26, 1959, No. 6780/59. Class 135. A manually operable distributer valve consists of a body part 13, Fig. 4, disposed between rectangular plates 14, 15, the part 13 having a cylindrical bore 19 in which is a valve rotor 20 provided with a boss 21 connected to an operating handle via a universal joint. A conduit fitting 30 communicates with an axial inlet/outlet passage 32 in the rotor 20 which passages lead into a pair of radial passages 33, 34, Fig. 3, mutually arranged at 45 degrees. Four outlet/inlet passages 35 angularly spaced by 90 degrees and normal to the body edges 36 pass through the part 13 and open into the bore 19 through conical seats; externally each passage 35 is connected e.g. to a jack, not shown. Rotor passage 33 incorporates an enlarged bore 40 in which slides an annular sleeve 41 having a conical outer end; a check valve 43 seats on the inner end of the bore 40 and its spring 45 abuts the sleeve 41. Rotor passage 34 also embodies an enlarged bore 50 in the outer end of which is threaded a bush against which bears a check valve 52, the spring 53 of which abuts the inner end of the bore 50. Conical recesses 55 are formed in the bore 19 angularly spaced at 45 degrees from the seats 39. When the passage 33 is aligned with any one of the passages 35 the end 42 of the sleeve 41 engages the respective seat and locks the rotor in that position to enable fluid to be supplied to a jack from passage 32 via the valve 43. Upon moving the rotor through 45 degrees the sleeve end engages the associated recess 55 so locking the rotor in this position, whereby fluid is exhausted from the selected jack to the passage 32 via valve 52, which passage 32 is now connected to a reservoir ; the exhaust pressure in passage 32 is insufficient to unseat valve 43.
