Abstract
690,126. Taps or cocks. BOURNER & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., F. H., and BOURNER, F. H. Sept. 19, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No. 23069/50. Class 135. In a tap or cock in which the valve member or jumper 16 closes against an annular seat 14 against the supply pressure, the jumper is urged towards its seat by a spring engaging the jumper or its stem 17 so that if any back pressure occurs on the outlet side of the tap when the tap is open, the jumper closes automatically to prevent any return flow. As shown, the spring 32 acts on the stem 17 which is guided in a fluted anti-splash member 18. The latter has a tapered portion 26 and is supported on a shoulder 27 in a nozzle 24 forming part of an internally threaded sleeve 21 which is rotatable on an externally threaded spigot 12 by means of a capstan handle 23. The sleeve 21 is sealed by a ring nut 31. A hexagonal check valve 29 closes the upper end of the seat passage when the sleeve 21 is removed from the spigot 12. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 599,386.
