Abstract
994,935. Valves. BLAW-KNOX CO. Jan. 14, 1963, No. 1545/63. Heading F2V. The control of fluid flow from an inlet 3, Fig. 1, to an outlet 17 is effected by a movable closure member 7 having a conical sealing surface 6 co-acting with a similarly shaped hardened-steel seat 4 which is removable; the closure member 7 also embodies a throttling portion la which, once the member 7 is unseated, co-operates with a funnel-shaped part 18 of the inlet 3 to provide an annular flow area that is smaller than that between the member 9 and its seat 4. The valve stem 8 which passes through a gland 9 is urged on to its seat by a spring 10 and actuated by a cam 14 through a follower 13 and a lever 12; an adjustable screw 15 is provided between the lines 12 and stem 8. In another form, the throttling portion 19a, Fig. 2, is arranged on the downstream side of the closure member sealing surface 6a and the valve seat 4a is threaded in position.
