735,087. Mounting crankshafts. HANNOVERSCHE MASCHINENBAU-AKT.-GES. VORM. G. EGESTORFF, HANOMAG. Aug. 21, 1953. No. 23099/53. Class 7(2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In an engine comprising a crankshaft 5, Fig. 2, bearings for the shaft each in the form of a bracket 4 and a cap 6, a crankcase 1 of tunnel shape having mating surfaces 3 for the bearings and into which the assembled shaft and bearings can be inserted longitudinally, cap bolts 7 are provided for securing each bracket 4 and cap 6 together before assembly of the shaft in the crankcase 1 whilst bracket bolts 8, which pass into the bracket through the crank case surface carrying the cylinder 2, hold the bearings against the surfaces 3 and receive the engine thrust forces. Each bolt 8 has a locating surface 9 co-operating with corresponding surfaces in the bracket 4 and crankcase 1. In a modification the two cylinder banks of a V engine are mounted upon the upper sides 13, Fig. 4, of the crankcase 12 and each bearing bracket 16 has two pairs of axially displaced bracket bolts 19 and 19<SP>1</SP> threaded therein in bores 20, 21 which are blind and separate from those for the cap bolts 18 ; the bolts 19 act as securing means only and have a clearance inside the bores 20 whilst bolts 19<SP>1</SP> act as locating means in conjunction with corresponding surfaces of bores 21 in both the crankcase and bracket.
