Abstract

734,231. Preventing furnace corrosion. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Feb. 23, 1954 [April 14, 1953], No. 10156/53. Class 51 (1). A process for reducing the corrosion of an oilfired gas turbine comprises burning the oil fuel together with a minor proportion of a metal sulphate which is unstable at 850‹ C. so that the sulphate decomposes and yields an oxide which reacts with vanadium pentoxide, the said metal sulphate being finely distributed throughout the combustion zone. Aluminium, zinc or tin sulphate may be used; the sulphate may be injected into the combustion chamber as an aqueous solution or as a slurry. Specification 705,176 is referred to.
