Abstract
1393302 Gas separation UNION CARBIDE CORP 22 June 1972 [22 Nov 1971] 29293/72 Addition to 1360836 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] An aqueous alkanolamine solution employed in acid gas absorption contains as corrosion inhibitor for metal in contact therewith a combination of 9 to 1 wt. parts of a V compound with 1 to 9 wt. parts Sb compound, the compounds being at least partially soluble in said solution, and the combination riot being a vanadate plus an antimonyl compound. Suitable V compounds are VO, V 2 O 3 , VO 2 , V 2 O 5 , K 4 V(CN) 6 , K 3 V(CN) 6 , 2KSCN.VO(SCN) 2 .5H 2 O, VF 3 , VF 4 , VOF 2 , VOF 3 , VF 5 , VCl 2 , VCl 3 , VOCl, VOCl 2 , VOCl 3 , V 2 O 2 Cl, V 2 O 3 Cl 2 .4H 2 O, VO 2 Cl 2 .8H 2 O, VBr 3 , VOBr, VOBr 2 , VOBr 3 , VI 2 , VI 3 , VI 4 , VSO 4 , 7H 2 O, V 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , VOSO 4 , (VO) 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , M 3 VO 4 , M 4 V 2 O 7 , MVO 3 , condensed vanadates, vanadovanadates, double vanadates, and MVO 4 (M=metal). Suitable Sb compounds are alkali metal antimonyl tartrates + gluconates Sb 2 O 3 , Sb 2 O 5 , and their reaction products with organic hydroxy-compounds, Sb 3 O 4 , alkali metal meta-antimonites, pyro-antimonates, meta-antimonates, antimony sulphates, or Aryl-SbO 3 H 2 , e.g. p-NH 2 C 2 H 4 SbO 3 H 2 , p-dimethylaminobenzenestibamine, p - acetaminobenzenestibonic acid, p-stibosoacetanilide, and a chelating agent such as tartaric acid or EDTA may be added. Corrosion of steel is inhibited during absorption of CO 2 by alkanolamines.
