Abstract
1060314 Preventing furnace corrosion DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 10 Feb 1964 [13 Feb 1963] 5485/64 Headings C5G and G10B Corrosion and incrustation of the low temperature surfaces of combustion plant is prevented by adding a finely divided mixture of a basic oxide and silica to the flue gases at a temperature not substantially above 400C. The basic oxide which may be magnesia, or lime is added in amounts sufficient for stoichiometric combination with the sulphur trioxide in the flue gases, and the ratio of basic oxide to acid oxide is 2:1 by weight or less. The basic oxides may be replaced by carbonates, and the mixture may be introduced into the combustion gases in an aqueous dispersion.
