733,607. Cylinder head joints ; cooling engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERGAKT.-GES. Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 31, 1952], No. 35723/53. Addition to 732,020. Class 7(2). In the engine described in the parent Specification wherein sealing between the cylinder head 2 and block 1 is by means of a non-elastic or hard, preferably metal-tometal connection and a highly resilient packing is disposed between the cylinder liners and the head, no openings for the passage of water are provided in the sealing face between the head 2 and the block 1, such passage taking place through a known by-pass pipe 4 between those two parts. As shown in Fig. 1 cooling water enters the block at 3 and passes from the head at 5 to a water cooler. Venting holes 10, Fig. 2, surrounded by rubber rings 11 are provided in recesses 8 in the block or the head, or partly in both, the recesses being connected to the atmosphere by a bore 12 ; or recesses 9 open on one side may be provided.
