Abstract

731,136. Locking rotary elements. WEBSTER-CHICAGO CORPORATION. Sept. 21, 1953 [Sept. 23, 1952], No. 26027/53. Class 80 (4). A gravity-operated device for locking a clockwork or like mechanism when it is moved out of its normal position comprises a lever 9 having a lug 11 adapted to engage in openings 10 of a wheel 1 of the mechanism. The lever 9 is hinged at one end on a bracket 5 and engages at the other end a weight 12 which has a conical cavity 13 co-operating with a conical pin 14. In the horizontal position shown in Fig. 1 the weight 12 seats on the pin 14 and the lug 11 is free of the wheel 1 to allow the mechanism to operate. If the mechanism is moved to a position such as in Fig. 3 the weight 12 slips away from the pin 14 and acts upon the lever 9 to cause the lug 11 to engage in an opening 10 to lock the mechanism.
