A lever lock of the kind in which the security means comprises a bellcrank lever 22 having a toe 24 which when the sliders 26 are correctly lifted by key means, engages in notches 25 of the sliders 26 to permit rocking movement of the bellcrank 22 and operation of the bolt 14, and which when in any other position obstructs rocking of the bellcrank to disengage its other arm from an abutment, and is characterised in that the bellcrank 22 is angularly displaced to engage its toe 24 in the notches 25 by an abutment 29 on a plate 28 lying parallel to the lath of the bolt 14. Either the bellcrank arm engages the abutment 29 or the abutment itself is adapted to co-operate with stop faces 19, 20 on the lath of the bolt for retaining the bolt against movement in its extreme positions, and the plate 28 is adapted to rock the bellcrank to its notch engaging position and free the bolt by continued movement of the key. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the sliders are replaced by security levers 32 pivoted at 33, and movable by lifting members 35 through a rotary thrower 36. In a further modification (see Fig. 7, not shown) the security levers 32 are pivoted to the pin 16 extending through a socket 15 in the bolt 14.
