Abstract

1337293 Locks FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 13 Sept 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 42605/71 Heading E2A A vehicle door latch comprises a pair of pivoted bolts 23, 24 held in the full or safety latching condition by abutments 55, 56 onlever 52 engaging shoulders 35 as shown in Fig. 6, or shoulders 34. These bolts are biased by a common spring 44 to the releasing position. The latch may be released from inside the vehicle by means of a bell-crank lever 65 (shown on edge in Fig. 2) which lifts the end 65 of latching lever 52. The latch is locked by rocking a lever 82 about its pivot 83 by means of an outside key lock or by a sillbutton acting at lug 91 or 88. This lever pivots an arm 79 at 81, the arm being rocked by a lever 74 operated by the outside handle through link 75 so that a flange 84 abuts flange 85 on the latching lever, to release it. Rocking lever 82 locks the door by moving this link so that its flange 84 clears the latching lever flange and is thus ineffectual. The latching lever is biased to its active position by spring 59, but if this spring fails, a projection 32 on the latch is arranged to strike a projection 58 on to throw the latching lever 52 into engagement when the door is slammed.
