Abstract

1442394 Locks GENERAL MOTORS Ltd 31 Jan 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 6198/73 Heading E2A A vehicle door includes a latch having an unlatching and locking mechanisms, a latch releasing actuator on the inside of the door at a distance from the latch, which actuator is connected by an unlatching rod 12 to the unlatching mechanism and a further rod 14 close to and extending in substantially the same direction as the rod 12 which rod 14 is connected at one end of the looking or releasing mechanisms and at the other end to a further point adjacent the actuator. The latch which is retained by a spring-urged pivoted detent 18, is released by a lever 28 attached to the rod 12 pivotally connected to a bell-crank 24 pivoted to a link 22 which has an offset arm 20 that rises to disengage detent 18 from a bifurcated bolt (not shown). The latch is locked by rotating a lever 32 having a pin 34 in a slot 36 in the link 22 whereby the latter is displaced laterally to an inoperative position. In the event of an accident affecting the door, the rod 14 bows to displace the link 22 to the inoperative position before rod 12 eases the latch.
