Abstract

1430528 Releasable fastenings FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 29 April 1974 [9 May 1973] 18589/74 Heading E2A A remote control hood latch release mechanism comprises a Bowden cable 25 connected between the latch and a control rod 32 secured to a handle 39, the control rod 32 having rack teeth 59 which mesh with teeth 58 provided on a pinion segment 55 coupled via a further Bowden cable 45 to a locking mechanism which is operable to prevent movement of the cable 45 and thereby of the rod 32. When the cable 45 is unlocked, movement of handle 39 in a leftward direction as shown causes corresponding movement of rod 32 and cable 25 to release the latch. The cable 45 is locked by means of a slug 48 coupled thereto and provided in a housing 44 through a slot 61 of which protrudes a tab 62 coupled to a vehicle ignition switch activation rod 28, Fig. 1 (not shown), with the vehicle ignition in a locked condition, the tab 62 abuts slug 48 to prevent movement of cable 45 and to resist rotation of pinion segment 55 which locks rod 32. Upon release of the ignition, lock tab 62 is moved out of the path of slug 48 to allow movement of cable 45, pinion segment 55 and rod 32. Upon release of handle 39 rod 32 is restored to its rest position by a compression spring 63 acting between a washer 65 in housing 44 and a second slug 66 on the cable 55.
