Abstract

1317916 Locks AISIN SEIKI KK 5 Oct 1970 [4 Oct 1969] 47173/70 Heading E2A A door latch for a motor vehicle comprises a rotary latch bolt 18 that has a slot for engaging a pin 12 of a striker 10 and is biased in the releasing direction and a striker contacting member 27 pivotally movable by the striker resiliently to deform a resilient buffer when the striker and latch bolt are in their fully latching position. The member 27 is made of plastics and is mounted on a shaft 17 to which a pawl 19 for the latch bolt is secured and the resilient buffer 29 may be secured to a flange 30 on a cover plate 41. Alternatively the resilient buffer 129 is secured to a housing portion 115. The latch bolt 18 is mounted to pivot on a shaft 16 which has an enlarged portion 16a for engagement with an upper surface of the striker when in fully latching position. The latch bolt 18 is retained in a safety latching or fully latching position by the spring urged pawl 19 and is released by actuating a lever 33 pivoted to a cover plate 14 by operating an inside handle connected to a lever 37 at one end thereof or by an outside handle connected to the other end. The releasing lever 33 is pivotally connected to a link 35 whereby when the lever is actuated the link engages an end flange 38b upstanding on a control lever 38 pivoting on the shaft 17 and connected to the pawl by a projection 40 passing through an arcuate slot 42 in the cover plate 41. A locking lever 31 also pivoting on the shaft 17 is connected to the link 35 by a pin and slot connection and is actuated by an inside push button or an outside cylinder lock to rotate the end of the link 35 out of contact with the flange 38b so preventing release of the pawl from the latch bolt. Locking of the door before it is closed is cancelled by closing the door, the latch bolt causing the pawl to rotate and with it the control lever 38 causing a flange 38a thereon to strike the link 35 which rotates and pivots the locking lever 31 to the unlocking position. Keyless locking is effected by closing the door with both the latch releasing and locking levers actuated whereby the flange 38a is unable to rotate the link 35 and locking remains effective. A resilient buffer 43 on the housing portion limits rotation of the latch bolt.
