Abstract

730,926. Gas meters. WILSON GAS METERS, Ltd., G. Feb. 11, 1954 [May 9, 1953], No. 12998/53. Class 54. A dry gas meter has a casing comprising an upper pressing enclosing the valves and the meter mechanism and a lower pressing enclosing the two diaphragm or measuring chambers, the two pressings being soldered together. A valve plate 12, Fig. 2, having a down-turned flange 13, is mounted between flanges 11, 18 on the pressings 10, 16 so as to leave spaces 14, 19 which serve as reservoirs with the assembled parts inverted during a high-frequency soldering operation. A channel 15 limits the extent to which the molten solder seeps between the flanges. The ports for the diaphragm chambers, which may be totally enclosed to leave a space between them and the lower pressing for measured gas, are formed in castings 20, Fig. 3, mounted in holes in the plate 12, a channel 23 being provided for solder. The inlet and outlet pipes are also secured by a high-frequency soldering operation and are provided with an external annular ridge 26, Fig. 4, which forms reservoirs with the upper pressing 16 for the solder. A union 28 is secured in the pipe by placing a ring of solder in the recess 29 prior to assembly and heating. Ridges 30 enable a gas-tight joint to be made between the end of the pipe and the plate 12 without the use of solder.
